چکیده

In the production process Ocimum basilicum seeds, substrate selection is an important characteristic in qualitative terms, as way to obtain a great culture development, addition reducing costs. The objective of this research was analyze different concentrations commercial associated with soil conditioner, based on tanned bovine manure, germination O. seeds. conducted under greenhouse conditions, completely randomized experimental design, and composed by six treatments [commercial (100%) (T1); (80%) + manure (20%) (T2); (60%) (40%) (T3); (T4); (T5); (T6)], replicates, each replicate characterized 10 cells from tray. seeds were placed into plastic polyethylene trays, steel countertops. After filling treatment, sowing carried out, after second day planting, evaluation out regarding average number speed index (GSI) time (AGT). best results related also (20%), seed above 78.33%, higher GSI, 1.21, lower AGT, whose below 6.78 days, showing positive effect up 20% Carolina Soil®,

Extraction optimization of mucilage from Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) seeds using response surface methodology

Aqueous extraction of basil seed mucilage was optimized using response surface methodology. A Central Composite Rotatable Design (CCRD) for modeling of three independent variables: temperature (40-91 °C); extraction time (1.6-3.3 h) and water/seed ratio (18:1-77:1) was used to study the response for yield. Experimental values for extraction yield ranged from 7.86 to 20.5 g/100 g. Extraction yie...

Antioxidant Potential and Polyphenolic Content of Romanian Ocimum Basilicum

This study sought to carry out a screening of the polyphenols from the aerial parts of four samples of Ocimum basilicum. HPLC-MS method was used to investigate the presence of phenolic compounds in the studied samples; caftaric, cafeic, chlorogenic, p-coumaric acids and rutin were identified. The total polyphenolic content was determined by using the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent, the flavonoid and t...

Chicoric acid found in basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) leaves

This is the first report to identify the presence of chicoric acid (cichoric acid; also known as dicaffeoyltartaric acid, which is a caffeic acid derivatizedwith tartaric acid) in basil leaves. Rosmarinic acid, chicoric acid and caftaric acid (in the order of most abundant to least; all derivatives of caffeic acid) were identified in fresh basil leaves. Rosmarinic acid was themain phenolic comp...

Hepatoprotective triterpenes from hairy root cultures of Ocimum basilicum L.

Six triterpene acids identified as betulinic, oleanolic, ursolic, 3-epimaslinic, alphitolic and euscaphic acids have been isolated from a dichloromethane extract of hairy root cultures of Ocimum basilicum L. (Lamiaceae). These cultures were obtained by genetic transformation using Agrobacterium rhizogenes. The extract as well as the isolated compounds were evaluated for their hepatoprotective a...

Chicoric acid levels in commercial basil (Ocimum basilicum) and Echinacea purpurea products

Fresh basil (Ocimum basilicum) leaves contain chicoric acid, which is the principal phenolic compound in Echinacea purpurea and purportedly an active ingredient in dietary supplements derived from E. purpurea. Here the concentrations of chicoric acid in dried and fresh basil products available to consumers, and how these concentrations compare to those from E. purpurea are reported. A wide rang...
